Business Council of Alabama member AT&T is expanding ultra-fast Internet service across Alabama to residents, small businesses, and apartments.

AT&T this week announced that is has expanded ultra-fast Internet service to homes, apartments, and small businesses in the Huntsville/Madison and greater Mobile areas.

AT&T’s expansion of ultra-fast Internet in these areas with speeds up to 1 gigabit per second is new for residents and small businesses.

AT&T previously has announced that this service will soon be available in the Birmingham and Montgomery areas.

Ultra-fast Internet is just what it says – super download and upload speeds for business, personal, and entertainment use. With Internet speeds 20 times faster than the average cable-provided speed, you are able to download 25 songs in 1 second or less and a 90-minute HD movie in less than 34 seconds, for example.

“Each and every day, our more than 6,000 employees are turning AT&T’s billions of dollars in financial investment into high-speed Internet for consumers and businesses across Alabama,” AT&T Alabama President Fred McCallum said. “At AT&T, we are committed to innovation and providing cutting-edge technologies such as our ultra-fast Internet speeds that will enhance the many ways our customers live, work and play. Those investments are possible in large part because of the positive, pro-business policies championed by our elected officials at the local and state levels.”

Huntsville/Madison Area Is the Latest With Ultra-Fast Service

The Huntsville area became the latest of 67 metro areas nationwide where AT&T is making available its fastest Internet service on the AT&T 100 percent fiber network. “We are proud to deliver AT&T’s fastest Internet to our customers in the greater Huntsville area, offering enriched experiences as our customers increasingly interact with their world in more data-intensive ways,” McCallum said.

AT&T Fiber Provides Ultra-Fast Internet in Greater Mobile Area

This week, AT&T also launched ultra-fast Internet to apartments, homes, and small businesses in the greater Mobile area. There are more than 15 apartment and condo units in the area now on the 100 percent fiber network, AT&T announced Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Communities Are AT&T Fiber Ready

AT&T Fiber Ready is a designation to help economic development officials showcase Alabama’s communications infrastructure. AT&T has been deploying fiber in Alabama since the mid-80s and offering advanced services to business/commercial/industrial parks for a while. The fiber is not new, just the AT&T Fiber Ready designation is.

In the Shoals, AT&T invested in high-speed Internet at Shoals Commerce Park in Tuscumbia, making AT&T’s fiber infrastructure ready to help community leaders drive job creation. Shoals Commerce Park joins previously designated Florence-Lauderdale Industrial Park, Shoals Research Airpark, and Rogersville Business Park with strong existing infrastructure, including high-speed fiber optics.

As part of AT&T’s continuing efforts to drive economic development and investment in Alabama, AT&T and officials in Prattville, Autauga and Elmore counties announced three sites certified as AT&T Fiber Ready.

“AT&T continues to invest in high-speed Internet in urban and rural areas all across Alabama using the latest wired and wireless technologies, and, we are proud to highlight the South Industrial Park, Legends Park at HomePlace and Interstate Business Park among the numerous places in Alabama where AT&T’s fiber infrastructure is in place and ready to help community leaders drive job creation,” McCallum said.

AT&T Has Invested Nearly $1.2 billion in Alabama Wireless and Wired Networks During 2013–2015.

The investment drives a range of upgrades to reliability, coverage, speed, and overall performance for business and residents. In today’s world, connectivity is important to new employers and business. The AT&T Fiber Ready designation helps economic development leaders more effectively position their communities for site selection by emphasizing the availability of high-speed, fiber-based services.

The AT&T fiber network provides the bandwidth needed to support data intensive services such as video, collaboration, cloud services and more through products such as Ethernet, Virtual Private Networking, Managed Internet Service and AT&T Business Fiber. Customers can complement their high-speed Internet with network security options and online backup to help protect their business-critical information.

AT&T Fiber Ready is a designation, supporting economic development in industrial parks in Autauga and Elmore counties, Colbert County, Cullman County, Dallas County, Jefferson County, Lauderdale County, Mobile County, Montgomery County, Morgan County, and Walker County. AT&T has fiber across Alabama and continues to designate additional sites.
