Senate Committee Approves School Flexibility Act

On a vote of  9 to 0, the Senate Education committee gave a favorable report to SB 54, by Sen. Bill Holtzclaw, R-Madison, which is known as the Local Control School Flexibility Act.

The bill allows certain laws and regulations to be waived in exchange for permission to implement plans for innovative and creative instruction that are expected to yield measurable academic improvements.

The BCA supports this legislation.

In addition, the Senate Education committee heard testimony but took no

vote on a proposed constitutional amendment that expands the types of public entities that are prohibited from having unfounded mandates imposed upon them, so as to include the local boards of education.
