Legislature Continues Transportation Infrastructure Meetings

infrastucturemeeting1

The Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce will host the next Alabama Legislature’s Joint Transportation Committee infrastructure meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 19, in Montevallo. The regional meeting will be held at American Village, 3727 Highway 119 from 10 a.m. until noon.

The first of five planned regional meetings was held on Jan. 7 in Northport and was hosted by the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama.

Future meetings will be on Jan. 26 in Mobile, Jan. 28 in Dothan, and Feb. 1 in Decatur. The Decatur location and date are changes from the originally scheduled Huntsville meeting.

Alabama Department of Transportation Director John Cooper plans to attend the meetings, which will be open to the public.

The Business Council of Alabama and the Alliance for Alabama’s Infrastructure are partnering with the Alabama Legislature Joint Transportation Committee on this and future regional meetings across the state to discuss the state’s surface transportation infrastructure. The upcoming regular legislative session will address transportation infrastructure funding.

“It’s vitally important for BCA members to attend these legislative committee meetings that will help guide the future of Alabama’s arteries of transportation,” BCA president and CEO William J. Canary said. “Timed perfectly before the Feb. 2 start of the 2016 regular legislative session, the meetings offer the public, local officials, business leaders, and their employees the opportunity to provide input and learn about Alabama’s important surface transportation system.”

Nothing is more important to our regions as infrastructure, which is directly linked to our safety, economic prosperity, and quality of life. Efficiency of Alabama’s highways and bridges is critical to a healthy state economy that depends on ease of access for customers, markets, material, and workers.
