A leader in diabetes care and a health plan company have scheduled a free webinar Wednesday to discuss with employers and interested parties the prevalence and cost of diabetes, screening and prevention programs, and patient and stakeholder resources.
The presentation by Norvo Nordisk and Medicaid Health Plans of America is tailored for Medicaid but is open to any registrant. The webinar from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Central Time can be accessed here.
When registering, at the end check the box that says “invoice me” and you won’t receive an invoice since the webinar is free.
The Business Council of Alabama’s director of governmental affairs and advocacy, Leah Garner, will be a participant on the webinar panel. Garner is the facilitator for the BCA’s Diabetes Coalition of health care providers and administrators. The coalition accepts volunteers. Contact Garner at 334-240-8726 or by email at leahg@bcatoday.org.
The webinar is appropriately timed as Nov. 14 was World Diabetes Day, the birthdate of Frederick Banting who worked with Charles Best to discover the diabetes drug, insulin, in 1921.
According to Novo Nordisk, diabetes is a pandemic, and its prevalence is growing in every country. Of the hundreds of millions of people with the condition, almost half do not even know they have it, putting them at risk of developing serious complications such as heart attacks, blindness, kidney failure and loss of limbs, Novo Nordisk said. Clearly, World Diabetes Day has a greater role to play in raising awareness about diabetes than ever before.
