Business Council of Alabama member AT&T is expanding business access to gigabit Internet speeds in 20 Alabama cities with more AT&T Business Fiber installations. AT&T said this means that more Alabama AT&T business customers can enjoy download and uploads up to 1 gigabit per second.

“We are accelerating deployment of AT&T Business Fiber across Alabama, offering customers fast, reliable, highly secure network solutions,” said Fred McCallum, president of AT&T Alabama and the BCA’s 2014 chairman. “Our continued investment in Alabama allows our over 6,300 AT&T Alabama employees to expand our fiber network and bring a multitude of innovative opportunities to our customers.”

AT&T Business Fiber with access to 1 gigabit per second has been expanded to select locations in the Anniston, Auburn, Birmingham, Cullman, Daphne, Decatur, Fairhope, Florence, Foley, Gadsden, Huntsville, Jacksonville, Mobile, Montgomery, Muscle Shoals, Opelika, Oxford, Sylacauga, Talladega, and Tuscaloosa areas.

Alabama Secretary of Commerce Greg Canfield said gigabit speed is a tool that helps businesses compete and grow.

One gbps Internet speeds means businesses can download 8,000 word processing documents in 1 second, download a two-hour, high-definition video in 36 seconds, and backup or restore a 1 terabyte hard drive in 2.5 hours. AT&T also is launching nationwide U-verse Business Voice over AT&T Business Fiber.3, a voice-over IP service.

AT&T said it has expanded its fiber footprint over the past few years, both to consumers and businesses, and has invested nearly $1.2 billion in Alabama wireless and wireline networks from 2013 through 2015.

AT&T’s expanded coverage reaches more than 17,000 incremental business customer locations in Alabama and more than 1 million in the United States. In Alabama, more than 200 multi-tenant office buildings are hooked up to AT&T Business Fiber.
