Alabama BEST Champion to Visit White House

The 2014 Best of the Best Robotics Team Award recipient that was recognized by the Business Council of Alabama in February has been invited to participate in the White House Presidential Science Fair in Washington, D.C., on March 23.

The Wetumpka High School BEST Robotics Team, representing Friends of BEST in Alabama, received the official invitation on Friday to be honored guests at the 2015 White House Presidential Science Fair. It will be the third invitation for BEST in Alabama.

The high school robotics team was honored Feb. 19 at the BCA’s Manufacturer of the Year Award luncheon. The BCA presented the team with the BEST of the BEST Award for the state of Alabama.

Wetumpka High School is the only Alabama school to receive a White House science fair invitation and will be the only BEST Robotics team nationwide to participate in this opportunity, BEST said.

The Wetumpka High School Robotics Team won First Place Overall at the War Eagle BEST Robotics Competition in 2014.

Three Wetumpka BEST team leaders will attend and will represent their team, hear remarks from the President, interact with other students from across the nation, and meet professional scientists and engineers, high-level senior government officials, and private sector representatives, BEST in Alabama said.

Wetumpka team members plan to visit the Capitol, the Smithsonian Institution, and numerous other national monuments and sites.
