To Honor Senator Richard Shelby

Business Council Of Alabama’s “Evening For Progress” Event To Honor Senator Richard Shelby

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Business Council of Alabama (BCA) will hold its annual Evening for Progress on Monday, October 3, at the Sheraton Hotel in Birmingham. This year’s event will honor U.S. Senator Richard Shelby for his service to Alabama and the nation, and joining BCA as a special guest to recognize Senator Shelby will be U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell, the United States Senate Republican Leader.

Throughout the event, BCA will highlight Senator Shelby’s historic legacy as Alabama’s longest serving Senator, celebrating his 44 years of service in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. During his career, he has served as the former chairman and current vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations; the chairman of the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration; chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee; and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. After an outstanding tenure, Senator Shelby is leaving office following the current election cycle.

“No leader has done more for Alabama’s progress than Senator Richard Shelby. BCA and our members are honored to have the opportunity to recognize and celebrate his service at our Evening for Progress,” said BCA Chairman of the Board Mike Kemp. “Senator Shelby has been a visionary leader in forging a 21st-century Alabama economy through pro-growth, pro-jobs policies and strategic investments in our state’s future. Senator Shelby’s determination and focus has transformed possibilities into life-changing realities for Alabamians in every corner of our state.”

Joining BCA as a special guest for the evening will be U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell, the United States Senate Republican Leader. Senator McConnell is the longest-serving Senate Republican Leader in American history having been unanimously elected eight times since 2006. First elected to the Senate in 1984, McConnell is Kentucky’s longest-serving senator. TIME Magazine has twice named Senator McConnell as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World.

“BCA is proud to honor Senator Shelby for his many achievements, and we welcome Senator McConnell as we come together for an evening of recognition of a great statesman and promote continued engagement in protecting Alabama’s progress for the future,” Kemp concluded.

Proceeds from the event supports ProgressPAC, the political affiliate of the BCA.

The Business Council of Alabama is Alabama’s foremost voice for business. The BCA is a non-partisan, statewide business association representing the interests and concerns of nearly 1 million working Alabamians through its member companies and its partnership with the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama. The BCA is Alabama’s exclusive affiliate to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers.

ProgressPAC remains committed to fighting for Alabama’s future by endorsing pro-jobs candidates who will help lead Alabama in the right direction. Thanks to the generosity of Alabama’s private-sector job creators who invested in ProgressPAC, more than 92% of BCA-endorsed, pro-jobs candidates won their primary and runoff elections in 2022 —an overwhelming success rate.
