MONTGOMERY – The chairman of the Business Council of Alabama today announced that Peyton Manning, one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, will be the keynote speaker at the BCA’s 2016 Chairman’s Dinner that will be held on Sept. 21 in Birmingham.
“Peyton Manning is one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game, said BCA Chairman Tommy Lee, president and CEO of Vulcan, Inc., in Foley. “He is one of the most respected athletes in the world, and we are honored to welcome him to Alabama to hear his unique views and experiences on leadership both on and off the field.”
Manning played college football at the University of Tennessee, leading the Volunteers to the 1997 SEC Championship in his senior season. The Indianapolis Colts chose him with the first overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft. He appeared in three Super Bowls, winning two with separate teams.
From 1998 to 2010, he led the Colts to eight division championships, two AFC championships, and to a Super Bowl championship (Super Bowl XLI).
He has won a record four league Most Valuable Player awards, was the most valuable player of Super Bowl XLI, has been named to 11 Pro Bowls, has 11 4,000-yard passing seasons (including a record six straight), and is the Indianapolis Colts’ all-time leader in passing yards and touchdown passes.
In 2012, Manning joined the Denver Broncos and appeared in two more Super Bowls – 2013 and 2015. The Broncos won the latter, the 50th Super Bowl. He then retired after 18 years in the NFL.
In 2009, Manning was named the best player in the NFL and Fox Sports along with Sports Illustrated named him the NFL player of the decade of the 2000s.
In 1999, Manning established the PeyBack Foundation, which has provided more than $10 million in aid to at-risk youth in Louisiana, Tennessee, and Indiana. For his work with this foundation, Manning received the Samuel S. Beard Award for Greatest Public Service by an Individual 35 Years or Under, an award given out annually by Jefferson Awards.
