FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Feb. 15, 2017
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Business Council of Alabama today presented state Sen. Quinton Ross with the Business Champion Award for passage of legislation that simplifies tax regulations by combining filing deadlines.
Sen. Ross, D-Montgomery, in the 2016 legislative session sponsored Senate Bill 263 that became law last May. The new law aligns state income tax filing dates for corporate and individual returns with federal tax filing dates.
The award was presented Ross by Mark Colson, the BCA’s senior Vice President of Governmental Affairs and Chief of Staff and Alabama Society of CPAs President and CEO Jeannine P. Birmingham, CPA, CAE, CGMA, during the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce’s Alabama Legislative Update at the Alabama Activity Center.
“Senator Ross realized that businesses and individuals will benefit by coordinating the filing dates for state and federal taxes,” Colson said. “The business community thanks Senator Ross for simplifying the filing task by coordinating when to file. His legislation will not only help Alabamians by simplifying their paperwork but also will reduce confusion about when to file what.”
Senator Ross was elected to a fourth term in 2016. He is the Senate Minority Leader.
The Business Champion Award recognizes legislators for their sponsorship and support of policies that better Alabama’s business climate and the lives of employees, families, and citizens.
The BCA, Alabama’s foremost voice for business, is a non-partisan statewide business association representing the interests and concerns of nearly 1 million working Alabamians through its member companies and its partnership with the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama. The BCA is Alabama’s exclusive affiliate to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers.
