The Evening for Progress

November 1, 2023

The Business Council of Alabama (BCA) will welcome former United States Representatives Trey Gowdy, R-SC, and Joe Cunningham, D-SC, to join us for our annual “Evening for Progress” as the keynote speakers. The event will take place on November 1, 2023, in Birmingham with proceeds supporting ProgressPAC, BCA’s political arm.

“BCA is proud to welcome former U.S. Representatives Gowdy and Cunningham – two notable political leaders who hold a proven track-record of fighting for pro-job, pro-growth policies at the national level,” said President and CEO Helena Duncan. “Those of us who call Alabama home have witnessed the significant economic progress we’ve made over the years and have enjoyed the benefits as a result. If we want to see our state reach its full potential, then we must be well-equipped and stand ready to support pro-business candidates across Alabama.”

Keynote Speakers

Trey Gowdy served South Carolina’s Fourth Congressional District from 2011 to 2019. Since leaving public office, Gowdy has returned to practicing law and rejoined Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP. He also serves as a Fox News contributor and Sunday night primetime host.

Joe Cunningham represented South Carolina’s First Congressional District from 2019 to 2021. During his tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives, Cunningham was part of the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of moderate to conservative Democrats on Capitol Hill. He was the Democratic nominee for South Carolina governor in 2022 but was defeated by incumbent Republican Governor Henry McMaster in the November election. Before running for public office, Cunningham practiced law and co-owned a small business.

The Evening for Progress is the premier fundraising event for BCA’s political action committee, ProgressPAC. This important component of the Protecting our Progress campaign provides the resources needed to support strong leadership and participation in the election process. By engaging in this process, the business community can help protect the significant progress that has been made in establishing a favorable business climate in Alabama that creates and sustains jobs. We hope you will support this key event through one of the sponsorship opportunities available.
