MONTGOMERY – The Business Council of Alabama has released its 2014 book, Capstone of Progress 2014, a chronicle of the business advocacy group’s activities for the year.
Prepared by the BCA’s staff and published by the BCA Press, the 331-page book includes major BCA initiatives, awards ceremonies, legislative successes, positions, and press releases. It also contains color photographs of people and events that were published in the Business Advocate section of Business Alabama magazine.
“The Capstone of Progress is a collection of important events in the BCA’s nearly 30 years of advocating for business,” said BCA President and CEO William J. Canary. “The Capstone of Progress chronicles the fourth year of the 2011-2014 legislative quadrennium during which significant pro-business bills were was signed, sealed, and delivered.”
The first three “Progress” books were A Blueprint for Progress 2011, The Foundation for Progress 2012, and The Pillars of Progress 2013.
“Each year our goal is to advocate for our thousands of members and the business community at large,” Canary said.
The 2014 book was released at the BCA’s weekend Governmental Affairs Conference at Point Clear.
The Capstone of Progress 2014 begins with the BCA’s 2014 Legislative Agenda, contains the BCA’s 2014 Federal Legislative Agenda, and includes a printing of Governor Robert Bentley’s Jan. 14 State of the State address.
The book’s chapters include weekly Capital Briefings published during legislative sessions and reprints of Washington Briefings produced during congressional sessions.
Events of the year captured in color photographs include the 2013 Chairman’s Dinner featuring former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and Dr. Benjamin Carson Sr., a retired neurosurgeon and now a columnist and speaker.
Editorials, speeches, and important BCA press statements, and positions are included. The Partnership between the BCA and the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama and Chamber members is highlighted.
The book recalls the unveiling of the new Business Education Alliance of Alabama. Given prominent positions in the book are the BCA’s Health Care forum, Manufacturer of the Year Awards, BCA awards to Alabama’s U.S. Senators, Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions, education’s importance to manufacturing, and a recap of the 2014 legislative session.
