MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Business Council of Alabama President and CEO William J. Canary today congratulated House Speaker Mike Hubbard and Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh after their reelections to top leadership positions.
“Speaker Hubbard and President Pro Tem Marsh are experienced, capable leaders of their respective legislative chambers,” Canary said. “Their open-door policies and ability to work with the business community make them valuable assets to Alabama’s ongoing efforts to create and maintain a business atmosphere that is conducive to job creation.
“We look forward to a positive, continued association with Speaker Hubbard and President Pro Tem Marsh during this legislative term,” Canary said.
Hubbard, R-Auburn, and Marsh, R-Anniston, were first elected to their respective positions four years ago after Republicans gained control of the State House for the first time in 136 years.
They were reelected Speaker and President Pro Tem during the organizational session of the 2015-18 Legislature that began today in Montgomery.
Canary noted that both were reelected with bipartisan support. Hubbard received 99 of 105 possible House votes, including most of the 33-member Democratic Caucus. Marsh was elected with 34 of 35 Senate votes. One senator was absent.
