BCA Members Get Manufacturing Update, Present Award During Briefing in Nation’s Capital

Several BCA manufacturing members and staff traveled to Washington, D.C., last week to meet with Alabama’s congressional delegation and hear the latest updates on national policy affecting the manufacturing industry from experts at the National Association of Manufacturers. The 2011 Manufacturing Advocacy Council Briefing was also an opportunity for House Speaker Mike Hubbard to present Jay Timmons, president and CEO of the NAM, with the 2011 BCA  Gov. Bob Riley “Building a Better Alabama” Award.

Hubbard thanked Timmons for his support of the Business Council. “I know the BCA is very proud to be your partner in Alabama,” Hubbard said,  “and I want you to know that the National Association of Manufacturers has no greater friend than the Alabama Legislature when it comes to creating jobs, especially in the manufacturing sector,  and when it comes to building a pro-business environment where the free enterprise system can flourish.”

It was announced earlier this year at the BCA Manufacturer of the Year Awards that Timmons had won the award. It was presented officially to him last week.

Briefing attendees heard policy briefings from several NAM experts in the fields of government relations, economics, tax and domestic economic policy, energy and resources, human resources and infrastructure, legal and regulatory policy. The group also met with several members of Alabama’s congressional delegation.
