Small Business: The Backbone of Our Economy
The Business Council of Alabama recognizes that small businesses provide the majority of jobs for Alabamians, and protecting their entrepreneurial efforts sustains job growth. We are proud that nearly 85 percent of our membership is made up of small businesses.
BCA fights every day for the rights of small business men and women. Our Small Business Committee is on record as supporting protecting economic development funds currently allocated for small business development programs and encourages recognition of, and support for, entrepreneurial enterprises as essential to the state's economic development program.
In 2011, BCA was instrumental in passage of the Small Business Health Care Tax Deduction, which allows employers and employees to deduct an additional 50 percent of the amount spent for health insurance premiums, an increase from 150 percent to 200 percent. BCA also supported the Full Employment Act, which gives a one-time income tax credit to employers of 50 or fewer employees.
