Committees

committeedayThe Business Council of Alabama's goals, policies and actions are driven by its members. Those who participate in the BCA's committee system are front and center when BCA's legislative priorities are set. To make sure your company has a voice when policy priorities are determined, be sure to name a representative to the BCA committees that address the issues of greatest concern to you.

The BCA has nine standing committees, eight with technical expertise in their particular issue or topic of concern. The ninth committee, Governmental Affairs, is made up of professional governmental relations experts and others who frequently deal directly with lawmakers. Committee members help analyze issues that affect business and assist the BCA staff in presenting the business position to Alabama lawmakers and regulators. Committee members are the first to be informed, via BCA fax and e-mail alerts, about issues related to their area of concern. These active members comprise the foundation of BCA's far-reaching grassroots network.

Each year, the eight technical committees meet to discuss and recommend legislation to be included in the Business Council's Legislative Agenda. At a later date, BCA's Governmental Affairs Committee reviews the recommendations and passes along its choices for the BCA State and Federal Legislative Agendas to the full BCA board of directors. The board then makes the final decision on legislation to be supported by BCA.
