Business Council of Alabama Mourns Death of Board Member Ron Box

The Business Council of Alabama family is mourning the passing of BCA board member Ron Box, who died August 10. He was the chief financial officer and chief information officer of Joe Money Machinery Co., a $28 million regional equipment distributor based in Birmingham. He also served as co-chairman of BCA’s Tax and Fiscal Policy Committee.

“Ron was a dedicated member of our board of directors and a devoted advocate for business across Alabama,” said BCA President and CEO William J. Canary. “He was a caring friend who will leave a legacy of warmth, love and compassion for others. Our prayers are with his family at this time.”

Prior to joining Joe Money Machinery, Ron spent several years in a variety of financial positions in public practice at Big Four and regional firms as well as a national bank and an international manufacturing firm. These financial positions included corporate tax officer, financial analyst, and tax accountant.

“We are deeply saddened by Ron’s passing, but are grateful for his tireless work to improve Alabama’s business climate over the years, which enhanced the lives of many people. The BCA family is praying for Ron’s family,” said William W. Brooke, chairman of the BCA Board of Directors and managing partner of Venture Capital for the Harbert Management Corporation.

Ron received his bachelors in economics with a concentration on computer/technology from Auburn University and his bachelors in accounting from Samford University.

Ron had an extremely large accounting and technical repertoire. He was an AICPA CITP credential holder, a certified information systems security professional and certified in financial forensics. He was an exemplary member of the AICPA CITP Credential Committee, the AICPA Business Intelligence Task Force and the AICPA Webcast Task Force. He was also highly engaged in the local Alabama State Society and the IFRS Revenue Recognition Steering Committee.

He authored many articles on various accounting and technical issues, as well as challenges and opportunities of the profession. He was also an active member of the Alabama Society of CPA’s where he served as a board member.
